How do you actually evaluate an AI clipping tool?

Ask four questions the marketing pages do not answer: does the free plan watermark exports, how long does a 20-minute window really take, does the tool's own score predict views, and can it publish to TikTok without you tapping. We answer all four about ourselves below, with numbers.

Why this page has no competitor table

The obvious version of this page would be a grid of vendors with prices and limits. We are not publishing that, and the reason is worth stating: we tried to source those numbers from the vendors' own pricing pages and got readings we could not stand behind — one page reported a paid tier at $0/month, which is plainly an artifact of a discount toggle rather than a fact.

Publishing a wrong number about a named competitor is worse than publishing nothing. So this page gives you the questions instead, answers them about us, and leaves the vendor's own site as the place to check the vendor.

If we ever run the same video through other tools ourselves, that page will say which video and on what date.

1. Does the free plan watermark exports

This is the single biggest difference between free tiers, and it is usually the thing the paid plan removes. Check it before you build a workflow on a free plan, because a watermark you did not expect means re-rendering everything later.

On our side: the watermark is a per-account setting and it is off by default, so free exports are clean unless you turn it on. That is a deliberate choice — a clip you made is your clip — and it costs us the distribution that a forced watermark would bring.

2. How long does a long window really take

Tools advertise clipping "in seconds". That is true of the scoring step and false of the pipeline. Ask specifically about a 20-minute window from a long source, because that is where the numbers diverge.

Ours, measured: a 5-minute window takes about 7 minutes end to end. A 20-minute window pulled out of a 3-hour-49-minute source took 759 seconds just to download, at 58.8 KB/s. The scoring inside it took 2.5 seconds.

3. Does the tool's score predict views

Every tool in this category ranks clips with a number. Ask what that number is validated against. If the answer is "hook strength" then it is a property of the transcript, not a forecast of distribution — and those are different products.

Ours, checked against our own published posts: the correlation between score and actual views is -0.151 across 45 posts. Slightly negative. Our best-performing clip scored 68 out of a five-clip run where the top clip scored 82.

4. Can it finish a TikTok post without you

Most tools cannot, and it is not a missing feature. The upload permission delivers the file to your TikTok Inbox and TikTok asks you to complete the post. Direct posting is a separate permission with a separate audit on top.

So the honest question is not "does it post to TikTok" but "does it post, or does it hand me a draft". Both are legitimate; only one of them is hands-off.

FAQ

Why should I trust your numbers if you will not publish theirs?

You should not trust them — you should check them. Every figure on this page names the run or measurement it came from, which is exactly what makes it checkable. That is also why we are not printing figures we could not verify about anyone else.

Is a watermark on the free plan a bad sign?

No, it is a business model: the watermark is what the free tier trades for the free clips. It only becomes a problem when you discover it after building a workflow, which is why it is the first question.

What would change your answer on the score question?

A larger dataset. Forty-five posts from one small account is thin, and views on a new account are driven mostly by platform distribution. If the relationship changes as the data grows, this page will say so and on what date.
